💖 The Mystery of the End of the World - “Let the reader understand!”
📖 Matthew 24 remains one of the most enigmatic and profound chapters in the entire Bible.
The disciples asked Jesus a seemingly simple question that opens a deep labyrinth:
❓ “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3)
They connected the destruction of the Temple with the coming of Christ and the end of the age, because they had just heard the severe judgment in Matthew 23.
Jesus answered, but not in a clear chronological way. He left an intentional tension — a mystery that has challenged generations of readers.
🕊️ Why Were the Two Covenants and Priesthoods Necessary?
God did not institute the Aaronic priesthood and animal sacrifices because He needed the blood of bulls and goats. He used that stage as a powerful pedagogical school for fallen humanity:⚖️ To show us the seriousness of sin — sin deserves death. An innocent animal died in the place of the guilty person.
🔥 To reveal the holiness of God — access to Him is not cheap or easy.
✝️ To prepare humanity for the true Sacrifice — Christ Himself.
The Aaronic priesthood was only a shadow (Hebrews 10:1). It covered sins temporarily, but could not remove them completely or change the human heart.
When the Reality came — Christ, the Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek — the shadow lost its purpose (Hebrews 7:11-12; 8:13).
⚔️ The battle was already won on the cross, but God’s brilliant plan had to remain discreet, so it would not be hijacked by the enemy.
We were not given the exact timetable. We were given the promise, the certainty, and the hope of salvation and the Kingdom.
🔍 The Mystery of Matthew 24 – Two Layers
The disciples asked two seemingly connected questions. Jesus answered with a discourse that has two layers, intentionally tense.🏛️ Layer 1 – AD 70 (Partial Historical Fulfillment)
This was a real judgment upon unbelieving Israel and the definitive end of the Old Covenant.🔥 The Temple was destroyed, the Aaronic priesthood ceased in practice, and the sacrificial system ended.
⚠️ The “abomination of desolation” manifested through the Roman armies and the profanation of the holy place.
🙏 Christians fled Judea in time.
It was a partial fulfillment, but also a powerful diversion by the evil one, who copied and mocked the prophecy.
🔮 Layer 2 – Future / Typological Fulfillment (Repeatable)
Here lies the fullness of the prophecy. Verses 15–31 will be repeated in a more amplified and severe form. The abomination of desolation will consist in the profanation of the temple of the human body — the true dwelling place of the Holy Spirit under the New Covenant (1 Corinthians 6:19).
🧠 “The holy place” no longer refers primarily to a stone temple, but to the human body, which God has sanctified as His dwelling.
The Antichrist or his system will attempt to “stand” directly in this temple through technologies of control, marking, genetic modification, and total connectivity (AI, implants, etc.).
🏗️ A diversion with the rebuilding of a third physical Temple in Jerusalem is possible and even likely.
Satan may try to imitate and mock the literal prophecy by drawing attention to a stone “holy place.” However, the real target will be the profanation of the human body-temple, because the priesthood and the law have changed with the coming of Christ (Hebrews 7:12).
✨ The phrase “let the reader understand!” is placed exactly for this layer. It calls us to spiritual discernment. (📖 Matthew 24:15)
⏳ The Mystery of Verse 34
📖 “Truly I tell you, this generation [or ‘this nation/people’] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.”
This verse has caused the most debate.
“This generation” can be understood as the generation that will see the final signs, or as the Jewish people who will continue to exist until the complete fulfillment of the prophecy.
👉 Jesus emphasizes certainty, not a precise calendar.
💡 Strengths of This Perspective
🔍 The phrase “let the reader understand!” highlights the need for spiritual discernment.⚠️ Jesus warns from the very beginning: “Watch out that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4), underscoring the great deception that will come and the constant need for vigilance.
🕰️ Jesus gives clear hints of delay (“while the bridegroom was delayed” – Matthew 25:5; “My master is delayed” – Matthew 24:48); “but the end will not come right away.” – Luke 21:9).
💖 The constant call to watchfulness shows that His coming is not imminent in a calendar sense, but we must remain ready at all times.
🔁 The use of first-century language is intentional — it can encompass both layers typologically.
⚔️ The whole discourse is part of a brilliant warfare tactic against evil.
Christ has already won on the cross, but the final stage of the plan must remain discreet so it cannot be hijacked.
👑 Final Thought
💥 The battle is already won.We are simply called to watch, discern, and wait with confident hope for the return of the King.
💖 Let the reader understand - 📖 Matthew 24:15.📖 Luke 21:34. Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.
35. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.
36. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
PSALM 37:28 - For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones.
